Pregnancy Testing / Pre-Abortion Screenings

Pregnancy Testing and Pre-abortion screening appointments are essentially the same and both are designed to provide the information needed for women to make an informed decision on the outcome of their pregnancy. Patients who test positive for pregnancy will be offered a gestational dating ultrasound to make sure that the pregnancy is healthy and gives the pregnant patient a chance to hear the fetus’ heartbeat and see it grow from week to week. If they are considering abortion as an option, we will also offer STI testing and give them medically accurate information about abortion and the risks associated with it.

In 2024, our nurses provided over 200 ultrasounds (most patients have two appointments), and 103 patients* confirmed a life choice and went on to establish care with an OBGYN.

*This number may be higher as we lose contact with some of our patients.

STI Screening

Alpha Center provides STI testing to anyone in the community who needs it, offering a touchstone to patients who are sexually active = they could become a pregnancy patient later. Routine testing is provided for HIV/Aids, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, and Chlamydia.

During each appointment, the patient is asked about their spiritual life and the patient may choose to engage with the question or move on. In 2024, 62.8% of our patients identified as “none” or “atheist” when asked about their religious beliefs.

So far in 2024, Alpha Center has provided 387 STI screenings.
